Bronopol is supplied as crystals or a crystalline powder, ranging from white to pale yellow depending on the material grade.
- Solubility: Readily soluble in water (dissolution is an endothermic process). Ambient temperature solutions can contain up to 28% w/v. It has a high affinity for polar organic solvents but is poorly soluble in non-polar solvents.
- Thermal Stability: As a pure material, it has a melting point of approximately 130℃. (Note: Due to polymorphic characteristics, a lattice rearrangement occurs at 100-105℃, often misinterpreted as the melting point).
- Decomposition: At temperatures above 140℃, Bronopol decomposes exothermically, releasing hydrogen bromide and nitrogen oxides.
