Glutaraldehyde Solution 25 wt.%, 50 wt.%

Glutaraldehyde can be used as a disinfectant, preservative, and fixative. In most, glutaraldehyde is applied as a liquid.

Glutaraldehyde is effective against a range of microorganisms including spores. Glutaraldehyde is a dialdehyde. It works by a number of mechanisms. A number of mechanisms have been invoked to explain the biocidal properties of glutaraldehyde. Like many other aldehydes, it reacts with amines and thiol groups, which are common functional groups in proteins. Being bi-function, it is also a potential crosslinker.

Glutaraldehyde solution is a colorless or yellowish transparent and bright liquid with a slightly irritating odor. As for glutaraldehyde solubility, it can be dissolved in organic solvents. Such as water, ethanol, chloroform, glacial acetic acid, ether, and other organic solvents. The solubility of glutaraldehyde in water is about 100 mg/ml at 20 ℃.

In water solution, glutaraldehyde doesn’t exist much in the free state. Instead, this kind of aldehyde biocide appears as hydrates with different forms. Most are hydrates with an annular structure.

Glutaraldehyde solution (CAS no. 111-30-8) is reactive in property, and liable to polymerize and oxidize, which will react with compounds containing active oxygen and nitrogen. The reaction of the product with protein is mainly carried out between the carbonyl group of the former and the amino group of the latter. Among the known aldehydes, glutaraldehyde is one of the best cross-linking agents for proteins.

Glutaraldehyde solution has a small influence on the activity of the enzyme, and most of the enzymes can be fixed under controlled conditions, to cross-link without losing their activity. Contributing to its outstanding characteristics, glutaraldehyde solution has drawn special concern from people and been put at broad applications.

If you want to buy 25 wt.% and 50 wt.% glutaraldehyde solution, you get the right place. Many clients purchase glutaraldehyde solution from IRO Biocide.

Glutaraldehyde solution, 25% in water, is primarily for use as a protein cross-linking agent. This grade is not recommended for use as an electron microscopy fixative. In the laboratory, glutaraldehyde solution is commonly used as an amine-reactive homobifunctional crosslinker and as a disinfectant for medical equipment.

Glutaraldehyde solution may effectively crosslink amine and hydrazine derivatives to proteins and other amine-containing polymers; biotin hydrazides have been directly coupled to nucleic acids with glutaraldehyde in a reaction that is potentially useful for conjugating fluorescent hydrazides and hydroxylamines to DNA.

Glutaraldehyde solution is used as bactericide, disinfector, tanning agent, widely used in petroleum development, leather treatment, food, plastics, coatings, etc.

  • Sterilization and disinfection of medical devices.

glutaraldehyde application

2% glutaraldehyde solution (alkaline, acidic, neutral) can be used to sterilize and sterilize all kinds of medical devices.

Under normal temperature, the clean and dry equipment is completely immersed in the glutaraldehyde water solution, 30 minutes can reach the effect of sterilizing more than 10 hours.

No matter what kind of preparation, it is necessary to add 0.5% sodium nitrite to be used as a preservative before use.

However, once the preservative is added, it can only be kept for 1 month, and the alkaline glutaraldehyde solution can only be used for 1-2 weeks.

  • The sterilization and disinfection of endoscope.

glutaraldehyde application-2

Glutaraldehyde is the first choice for endoscopic disinfection. Many parts of the endoscope are not resistant to high temperatures and corrosion.

And the standard of sterilization is getting higher. Therefore, most endoscopes are sterilized with glutaraldehyde.

The correct procedure for the disinfection and sterilization of glutaraldehyde is:

Taking pollution-free treatment (endoscope can be cleaned directly). That can be used to clean the endoscope with a 0.2% effective chlorine cleaning endoscope.

Rinse off chlorine with clean water. Wash endoscope with a neutral or enzymatic cleaner. After washing, the equipment needs to be dried. Sterilization, fully immerse the drying apparatus into a 2% glutaraldehyde solution and reach the specified time.

Remove the residual glutaraldehyde from the sterile distilled water and then use or dry it.

  • As an organic crosslinking agent.

glutaraldehyde application 3

Glutaraldehyde can convert monomer, linear polymer or prepolymer into three-dimensional network structure under certain conditions.

At the 1% glutaraldehyde, the crosslinking degree has reached a high level. Under this concentration, the level of crosslinking decreases.

At that time, the swellbility and degradation rate increase. When the concentration was more than 1%, the indexes did not change obviously.

Side effects include skin irritation. If exposed to large amounts, nausea, headache, and shortness of breath may occur. Protective equipment is recommended when used, especially in high concentrations. GLUTARALDEHYDE may discolor on exposure to air. It polymerizes on heating. This chemical is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. It polymerizes in the presence of water.
